Disclaimer Regarding Language Used in Historic Newspapers

The majority of articles posted on this site and my main site, The Dead Bell, are clipped from The Library of Congress’ collection of historical newspapers. To say that some of the phrases or words found in these newspapers would now be considered “politically incorrect” is an understatement. Accounts of people, disabilities, groups, medical conditions, etc. often used terminology contemporary to the time the article was written; terminology which today is considered antiquated or offensive. My posting of articles containing such wording does not mean that I condone or would use those terms; but I feel that is is important not to gloss over or omit the “ugly” parts of history to make them more pallatable for the masses.
